We tried a crazy cocktail this year.
Throughout the night we had been referring to the web for new cocktail ideas. We found a few nice ones (which I will report on in another post).
However, one of them really intrigued us. It’s called cursed water, and the reason why it was so interesting is because it contained hot tea!
“TEA?!” you say! Yep, we were as shocked as she is.
Now we were pretty sure that it wasn’t going to taste good. But once we had heard of this strange concoction, we couldn’t really let Halloween pass without trying it. On top of everything else, I had a duty to drink it, and share my experience with all of you on Halloween-errific!
Ingredients
- 1 oz. 151-proof rum
- 1/2 oz. gin
- 1/4 oz. peach schnapps
- 1 tbsp. honey
- Hot tea
- Lemon slice
Preparation
Putting this crazy cocktail together is pretty straight forward.
Fill a mug 3 quarters of the way with tea, then had the other ingredients slowly, finishing with the lemon slice.

Some other cursed water
We didn’t have 151 rum. And to be honest, I’m not sure what we used. I’m thinking that it was Mount Gay, but it could quite easily have been Wray and Nephew considering the devil-may-care mood that we were in.
Whatever we used, I can confidently say that it tasted pretty rough. It was an interesting experience, but certainly wasn’t one of those cocktails that left you saying “Oh wow, was there even any alcohol in that?”.
In essence, it tasted like tea with booze in. Which is just what it was.
On the plus side though, tea contains caffeine, and by drinking it, we were able to stay up even later – which is just what you want to be able to do on Halloween.
sorry may sound like a daft question but when you say hot tea do you mean with or without milk?
hazel
Well, in the actual experiment, no milk was added. However, it could be interesting to try it with some. Or how about some sweet condensed milk?! Please feel welcome to post any of your findings! 😀
Soon to come – the Friday the 13th Halloween cocktail challenge! – This years halloween cocktails, 12 of them and all inspired by Friday the 13th movies.
